My first round of cards was actually two super heavy papers that I printed and then stitched together on my old rotary sewing machine (i know! but i love stitching and it was so cute.) giggle. and cardstock, of course, isnt heavy enough.
but for my photography I really just wanted something more ORGANIC. Glossy coating, double sided, rounded corners… etc. I have designed and ordered cards from a printing company for years. I remember reading somewhere “just because they make the handy little papers that you can print and tear into the exact 3 1/2 x 2″ size of business cards, doesnt mean you should actually USE them.” And while this is true, I am just honestly one of those “do-it-yourselfers”.
I know the golden rule of business card design: NEVER make your own. This is probably the reason why I have struggled so much with my business card designs. So now what? While I think business cards are no longer a necessity, I do believe they have become a really cool way to put your image out there – a way to make a statement about your company, your creativity, and your style. I mean, really, all you really ever need is a person’s name, or the name of their company, and then a quick search on google or facebook and you’re all set. Business cards are so unnecessary anymore, as far as a means of trading contact information goes.
